A client from Pointe-Claire, QC called us to let us know of his concerns about his crawl space. He noticed that moisture was forming on the support beams in his crawlspace and that the beams were sagging.

The experienced specialist Mike Costello went to the client’s house and advised him to install SmartJacks to support the sagging  joists as well as to encapsulate his crawl space with a Cleanspace membrane, in order to prevent the humidity problem from persisting.

Having a house by the water is nice. But when water and water vapors affect the humidity of the house, it is less pleasant. So we sent Jerry who has been working with us for a long time. Jerry noticed that there was no damage and that it would be enough to encapsulate this void.

Our foreman Jonathan and his team began by removing all the debris from the crawlspace. Then, they installed a drainage mat and encapsulated the vacuum with the CleanSpace vapors barrier membrane. This product is the most effective on the market. It is composed of 7 layers and is therefore extremely resistant. An antibacterial additive is injected in to block the growth of mold. This product is specially designed for the basement environment and we are very proud of it. This client can now use the crawl space for useful purposes.

The crawl space of this home in Saint-Liguori had several issues that could affect the home’s comfort and durability. Moisture that had accumulated beneath the structure created a cold, stuffy atmosphere, accompanied by lingering odors and condensation. The lack of insulation and the exposed soil also contributed to heat loss, as well as the risk of mold and material deterioration over time.

To address these issues, our team at Systèmes Sous-sol Québec installed a drainage membrane to better control the water beneath the building and efficiently redirect it to the SuperSump system. This sump pump ensures reliable water removal and helps keep the space drier year-round. We then proceeded to fully encapsulate the crawl space with CleanSpace lining, designed to limit water vapor movement and protect the space from excessive moisture. SilverGlo insulation was also added to the walls to improve energy efficiency and reduce temperature fluctuations in the home. To complete the system, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to maintain a stable humidity level and improve indoor air quality.

PROBLEM

Our client Eveline was facing serious issues within her crawlspace, leading to significant structural damage. Water infiltrations from the ground were compromising the integrity of support beams and causing mold growth. The floor was sagging, insinuating for a structural problem. The solution consisted of two crucial steps: Encapsulating the crawl space to eliminate harmful moisture and installing crawlspace jacks to level the sagging floor.

SOLUTION

First, we completed the crawlspace encapsulation using the CleanSpace system. This involves covering the floor with a drainage membrane and a vapor barrier above. The drainage membrane has a dimpled surface that helps channel infiltrated water towards the drainage or sump pump. The vapor barrier prevents the evaporation of infiltrated water, eliminating excess humidity. 

Next, we put in place our revolutionary SuperSump sump pump system. This system includes a 1/3 HP Zoeller pump, a lid, a tight-sealing drain, and a WaterWatch alarm to prevent potential disasters. To ensure proper thermal insulation of the crawlspace walls, we installed SilverGlo wall insulation panels.

We then installed three SmartJack beams on a precase concrete base. It's important to note that SmartJack beams are made of galvanized steel, eliminating the risk of rust.
