TC Hafford Basement Systems helped homeowners in York, ME with their damp, dirt floor crawl space. They knew moisture could cause mold, or wood rot on their support beams and floor joists. We used our two-step encapsulation system to protect the crawl space. First we install drainage matting, which helps control the ground water. Then we add our CleanSpace liner, a vapor barrier that seals out moisture. CleanSpace is made with an inorganic material that does not allow mold to grow. Their crawl space had an old plastic liner on the ground that was not sealed off, so moisture was still easily entering the space. The fiberglass insulation was failing, falling away from the ceiling, typically due to the heaviness from absorbing moisture. After cleaning out the old insulation and debris, we encapsulated the crawl space with drainage matting and CleanSpace vapor barrier liner. CleanSpace is a 20-mil liner that comes with a 25 year warranty against rips and tears, keeping water out of the crawl space. We also installed Spray Foam insulation along the perimeter rim joists, immediately improving the energy efficiency of the home.
